The Scandinavian Prostate Cancer Group (SPCG) was founded in 1981 by a group of Nordic urologists in an effort to establish an independent prostate cancer research organisation for the Nordics and to promote the conduct of large randomized clinical trials.
In 1995 urological oncologists were invited to the group. On the SPCG board each of the participating Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland) are represented by two urologists and one oncologist. The members of the board are appointed by the national urological and oncological societies.
In 2025 SPCG established a scientific group which is open to scientists of all trades who are interested in clinical research. The goal is to establish a continuous pipeline of relevant clinical trials. Further subgroups to facililate efficient high-quality research are planned for 2026.
